ORIHUELA COSTA TOWN HALL has approved the return of “The Winter Beach” from this weekend. The popular program of beach activities returns to Cabo Roig´s La Caleta beach for the fifth edition of the sponsored sporting activities, with organised events taking place on the beach each Saturday and Sunday.
The Winter Beach program was initially launched in 2017 in response to local demand for water sports and social leisure activities throughout the year, at the selected location of Cabo Roig´s La Caleta beach.
The beach provides the ideal location, meeting the stringent requirements for a family-friendly environment, with safe and clean Mediterranean waters, accessibility for all, the service of a beach bar year-round, and an extensive cove-shaped open beachfront comprised of golden sands.
The sporting calendar was suspended last year due to the pandemic, and returns for 2021 a little later than usual after a one-year hiatus.
Previous iterations of The Winter Beach included group aerobic activities such as yoga, body balance, Aquagym, and Zumba, alongside organised workshops and games for children that aimed to raise awareness and educate in the conservation, respect and protection of the environment.
Water sports on offer included paddleboarding, canoeing, snorkelling, and diving for beginners.
However, due to public safety measures, the requirements of social distancing, and limitations on groups of people, “The Spring Beach” program for this year is somewhat low-key in comparison with previous years, with just two activities on offer.

Nonetheless, the council have laid on complimentary stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking in association with Sun Sea Adventures at Cabo Roig Marina.
In addition, the Town Hall is offering surfing classes from La Zenia´s Cala Cerrada beach every Saturday during April and May.
The beach is naturally adapted to offer the conditions surfers require, and Cala Cerrada is the only beach on Orihuela Costa certified for surfing.
The free activities have been planned for the weekends covering dates from today, Saturday 3rd April, and culminating later this spring on Sunday 13th June 2021, with everyone encouraged to participate and enjoy the Orihuela Costa´s wonderful beaches.
Stand-up paddleboard sessions take place on La Caleta beach every Saturday from today until Saturday 12th June 2021, from 11:00 until 12:30.
Free kayaking is on offer every Sunday on Cabo Roig beach from tomorrow until Sunday 13th June, from 11:00 to 12:30.
Complimentary surfing classes take place in La Zenia every Saturday during the months of April and May, from today until Saturday 22nd May 2021. Lessons start at 09:00 from Cala Cerrada beach.
